Adventure & Adrenaline
Queenstown’s 2nd name is not without reason ‘Adventure Capital of the World’!
With AJ Hackett Bungy being the birthplace of bungy jumping it is the perfect spot for all the thrill-seekers out there. Many more adrenaline activities like whitewater rafting, river surfing, jet boating, a canyon swing or mountain biking are possible ways to explore the beautiful area.
Peak of Adrenaline
As mentioned before, AJ Hackett Bungy is the original and so is the 43m Kawarau Bridge bungy jump with water touch. Another option would be the 47m freestyle Ledge Bungy or Swing located high above Queenstown and is only accessible by gondola or walking up the hill. The cherry on top of the cake is definitely the 134m Nevis Bungy with its 8.5 second free-fall or the 300m Nevis Swing!
More into a slower pace while soaking up Queenstown’s magnificent scenery? Check out New Zealand’s number 1 original zipline tour – Eco-Exhilaration – operated by Ziptrek Ecotours.
It does not have to be bad weather to check out those thrilling indoor activities all around Queenstown. One option would be Game Over indoor go karting located in Frankton. If you have enough of the summer sun and need a little cool-down, check out Queenstown Ice Arena just a 5-minute walk from town and take the family on an afternoon of ice skating.
At SITE Trampoline you can awaken your inner child, while taking your fitness and freestyle skills to a whole new level. Some more thrilling experiences are the Fear Factory with its scary tours through the old Lockhart hotel or the gold rush themed Escape Quest, both located right in Queenstown town center.
Up in the Clouds
For a picturesque bird eye view across Queenstown in combination with a kick of adrenaline, consider a paragliding or hang-gliding adventure. Several operators located in Queenstown township are specialized on creating a thrilling memory you will never forget high above magnificent scenery.

On the Water
Stoneridge Estate is only a 5-minute walk away from Lake Hayes where you can allow your body a little cool-off on a hot summer day. If you want to include some more action into your Queenstown water experience, there are plenty more options to check out.
For example, Shotover Jet is a fun and exciting way to take the family out on an adventurous afternoon dashing over crystal blue waters while being thrown from side to side at every turn the boat takes. Another exciting water activity around Queenstown is Whitewater Rafting with different tour-grade options on Shotover River, Landsborough River or Kawarau River. If surfing is your thing but the two and half hour-drive to the nearest surf beach from Queenstown isn’t for you – don’t worry because River Boarding on Kawarau River has got you covered.
Stoneridge Estate is located in between some of New Zealand South Island’s most astonishing mountains and with it comes a broad range of tracks for walking and hiking. It comes down to your level of fitness and motivation if either a two-hour picturesque loop around Lake Hayes or the five to eight-hour Ben Lomond Walkway is right for you. Our team is happy to assist you on ascertaining the fitting mountain experience for you.
Another great way to explore New Zealand South Island’s back-garden is on a bike, either on a guided tour with one of Queenstown’s numerous operators or you can easily hire the gear and get creative on the wide range of mountain biking trails. For mountain bikers who are looking for an extra kick of adrenaline – Queenstown offers the only gondola-accessed downhill mountain park on the Southern Hemisphere.
The collection Queenstown has to offer does not stop with a two-wheel experience. What about a four-wheel-drive off road experience deep into the back country or a quad-bike tour. And if you rather switch the motorized vehicle with a living being, you have to option to take a journey through Lord of the Rings film locations on the back of a horse.
